Supporting Candidates Who Support Our Future

We endorse candidates who you can count on to address the climate crisis, protect our air and water, and build a cleaner and more equitable future.

Clean Air Action is endorsing Vice President Harris for President of the United States! We are also excited that she chose Minnesota Governor Tim Walz as her running mate.

Clean Air Action usually focuses on state-level races in Pennsylvania, but for the first time we are making a presidential endorsement because the implications for Pennsylvanians’ public health and environment are huge. It took the greater part of the past few years to repair the damage done by the previous administration’s anti-environmental agenda – and we’re not going back.

The Harris-Walz ticket also has us feeling HOPE for the first time in a long time! Hope is the catalyst for positive change. The sort of change that can truly move Pennsylvania and the nation forward.

Listen to our podcast episode about VP Harris.

Kamala Harris’s Notable Accomplishments

As District Attorney,

  • Harris created one of the first environmental justice units of any DA's office in the country, with the aim of tackling environmental crime. The focus of this unit was to address localized environmental issues that mainly affected San Francisco's most disadvantaged citizens, and specifically the community of Bayview Hunters Point.

As Attorney General,

  • Harris obtained a settlement in a lawsuit challenging the construction of the Mira Loma commerce center, which would have resulted in additional diesel traffic and therefore reduced air quality in local communities. The project was allowed to continue, but with steps to reduce the project's air quality impacts.

  • Harris obtained an $11.5 million settlement with ConocoPhillips and Phillips 66 for their failure to comply with hazardous waste laws at gas stations.

  • Harris filed a lawsuit to stop the Obama Administration's plan to permit fracking off the Pacific coast. Ultimately, the arguments in the lawsuit would result in an injunction from a federal judge pausing all new Pacific offshore fracking, which remains in place today.

  • Harris investigated whether Exxon Mobil lied to the public and shareholders about the risks to its business from climate change.

  • Harris joined local prosecutors to bring criminal charges against operators of a failed oil pipeline that polluted roughly 100 miles of California beaches.

  • Harris obtained a $24.5 million settlement with Chevron over violations of pollution laws, which also required Chevron to maintain a statewide compliance program.

  • Harris obtained a $14 million settlement against BP for their failure to adequately maintain gasoline storage tanks.

As Senator,

  • Harris co-sponsored Green New Deal with Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez

  • Harris introduced the Environmental Justice For All Act, the Clean School Bus Act, the Water Justice Act, and the Climate Equity Act.

Harris’s Running Mate, MN Governor Tim Walz

Among the list of strong contenders to be VP Harris’ running mate, Governor Walz arguably has the strongest environmental and public health record. Despite governing a state with a narrowly divided legislature, Governor Walz unveiled Minnesota’s Climate Action Framework in 2022, a 69-page climate plan with six major goals: clean transportation; climate-smart natural and working lands; resilient communities; clean energy and efficient buildings; healthy lives and communities; and a clean economy. He created a climate change sub-cabinet to manage Minnesota’s climate response efforts, and, last year, Walz signed a law requiring Minnesota to generate all of its electricity from wind, solar, and other carbon-free sources by 2040.
